Earlier this year when I was in New Zealand I decided it was time to put myself out there again and go sky-diving. Talk about an adrenalin rush! Such an exhilarating experience. It was my second time however this time I went to 13,000 feet!
The moment that you are told to get to the edge of the plane ready for the free fall, all your senses start screaming at you “NO!” “This is NOT a good idea” “Are you f*#king crazy??”
Essentially in that moment just before you jump you are prepping yourself to go completely against your natural instincts that are there to protect you from what could potentially be the end of your life. Jumping out of a plane is not a ‘logical’ thing to do.
You remind yourself that you are in good hands, the instructors are well-trained and your safety equipment has been properly checked. The parachute will open and you will live to tell the tale.
This story that you create for yourself is pretty much the only thing you are clinging to as you toss yourself out into the great blue yonder, free-falling and screaming all the way.
Jumping out of a plane might not be something you want to do. I get that. But taking the leap into the unknown in any area of your life can feel a lot like sky-diving.
The jump is the hardest part.
No amount of researching, testing on the ground, or talking to others is going to make the decision any easier when it is time to step over the edge.
Stay on the plane and never know what could have been (live with regret for not trying) OR jump and experience the most amazing thrill of your life.
What will you do?
Carry on in the same old routine, with the same complaints, the same excuses watching everyone move on with their lives, secretly wishing it was you? Will you live an unfulfilled existence because it is safe and predictable and comfortable? Or will you jump with your eyes wide open knowing that the satisfaction of the free fall will override any fear or discomfort that there might have been?
I don’t have to remind you just how short life really is. Don’t wait for it to be almost over to start living it how you really want to. Start today. Start now.
Fill yourself with a vision of what waits for you on the other side of the decision – one FREAKIN' AMAZING LIFE… and take the leap.
