Get a sense of urgency

If you are on the verge of losing your house, all your money, a loved one or suddenly get diagnosed with a terminal illness, all of a sudden you are intensely motivated to take massive action. You have a huge sense of urgency to say what you have always wanted to say, do whatever it takes to resolve a financial issue or immediately change your life to do all the things you have always wanted to do.

Puzzling, we are as humans. Really crazy.

Why does it take a major catastrophe for us to move into action?

I am not talking about the stress that is often associated with these moments. I am talking about living in a way that the important words and actions are always said and done, and not put off for another day when suddenly time puts the pressure on.

What are you waiting for really? Your death bed? This might come as a shock to you, but the truth is you are not going to live forever. And waiting for old age to do some of the things you have always wanted to is not a wise choice either. You may never reach old age. It’s a fact – I am not just being dramatic.

Tomorrow may never come. Or you may not have the opportunities tomorrow that you are given today.

Creating a sense of urgency, on a daily basis, will help you to focus time and energy on the things that are really important for creating a life you will be satisfied with.

Do you want to get to your death bed and think “wow I am so happy to spent 9 years of my life watching TV.” (This is the average for a person who lives to be 65 years old.)

This stuff is not talked about often enough. Most people shrug it off.

Don’t wait for the crisis. Make a decision today that to say, ‘I am done with my excuses – not another day!’

Today, start asking yourself some very good questions.

  1. What would you do if you knew you only had 3 months to live?

  2.  What would you say to your family and friends if they were going to be gone tomorrow?

  3. What things in your life would you not be wasting time and energy on?
  4. What is it that you have always wanted to do or achieve that you are putting off for another time? Why are you prolonging it?
  5. What is standing in the way of your achieving your goals, and why do you allow it to remain in the way?

Live so that you are fully aware that your time here is limited.

Because it is. Instead of trying to ignore it, accept it and be aware of the inevitable. This will mean that instead of fearing it, you will fear wasting the limited time you have by not living out your purpose.

Living with a sense of urgency creates a life of purpose which, in turn, leads to a happier, healthier and more fulfilled individual. It means you must get into take action around the things that are REALLY important, which will support you to do the things you truly want. Most often this means taking a risk, being bold and brave.

What is it going to take for you to make your purpose and your goals a priority?
